It was a busy night in the English premier league last night with, six of the top half team’s taking the wins. A goal just before half time by Fabergas, earned Chelsea them their 10th straight win in the league and moving them 6 points clear going into the crucial Christmas period. Liverpool and Man city both got their first wins in December to consolidate their top four spots along with Arsenal who lost to Everton on Tuesday night. With Tottenham, Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion being the other midweek winners. In the bottom half of the table, a west ham goal in first half injury time took their first win in seven with a 1-0 win against mid-table rivals Burnley.
In the championship, Newcastle and Brighton & hove Albion both travelled away, but returned with the three point to open up a 9 and 8-point gap respectively at the top of the table. From the following pack only Reading dropped points during the week with a 2-0 loss at sixth placed Leeds united. At the bottom end of the table, Brentford managed to leap frog Bristol City into 14th by beating them 0-1 on Tuesday evening, along with the only other change at the bottom with Cardiff City beating Wolverhampton Wolves 2-1, to go three points clear of the bottom three.
Moving away from ‘Old Blighty’, the 2016 World Club Cup Finalists have been decided with Ronaldo who this week collected his fourth Ballon d’Or helping Real Madrid extend their 36 game unbeaten run, by beating America 0-2. Benzema scored the first, making him the only real Madrid player to score in two separate World Club Competitions. Real Madrid’s opponents in the final will be Kashima Antlers who defeated Atletico Nacional 3-0, the final will be played this coming Sunday.
