Wasps pair fighting to be fit for Englands Six Nations opener

Eddie Jones names 34 man squad for New Years Training Camp

England rugby union duo Elliot Daly and Nathan Hughes will miss at least the first half of this seasons Six Nations it was confirmed today as diagnoses came back of the injuries the pair received playing for their club side Wasps in their recent European Champions Cup win over La Rochelle. A victory that could prove costly as the also lost Kiwi fly half and last years player of the year Jimmy Gopperth to a knee injury that could keep him out for up to 3 months.

British and Irish Lion winger Daly will miss at least 10 weeks thanks to a badly sprained ankle, while backrower Hughes has damaged knee ligaments that will see him side lined for 8 to 10 weeks meaning he may return in time for the Calcutta cup game against Scotland at the end of feb, while Daly will be looking at the penultimate game against France on the 10th March as his likely return.

The news will not be good for England coach Eddie Jones who already as doubts over several elite squad including Lions back row Maro Itoje and centre Ben Te’o as they prepare to defend their six nations title, with the first game only 6 weeks away as thy take on Italy in their opening game on February 4th.
