With Manchester United looking for their 4th piece of silverware in the last 12 months since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club, after defeating Leicester City in last season’s community Shield, Southampton in the EFL cup and Ajax in the Europa League Final. However, United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan say’s the clubs will only judge this year’s performance on were they finish in the Premeir league with all eyes on Chelsea’s crown.
But before United start their Premier league season at West Ham on Sunday, they have the best club side in Europe to play tonight and with only 2 victories out of the past 10 meetings between the teams, the Red Devils will have to be at their very best.
World player of the year and former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in the side after being given an extended break following his summer international commitments. The 32 year old as scored 16 goals for the Spanish giants in their last 10 games, included doubles in the Champions league semi’s and final. Also in the squad is Welsh international captain Gareth Bale, who is a possible target of United boss Mourinho before the summer transfer window closes.
For United, they could strengthen their attacking options, with Ashley Young missing and give new signing Nemanja Matic his full debut, after the midfielder completed his £40m move from Chelsea last week. But it is in defence the Red Devils may struggle with injuries to Left Back Luke Shaw and centre back Marcos Rojo meaning they will join the suspended pair of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly on the side lines.
