Storm Ciara has done its best to destroy the countries sporting schedule as game after game throughout the UK in a variety of sports have been cancelled or postponed in its wake.
In the Premier League Manchester City will now have to find a spare date to play out their fixture against West Ham after the conditions and concerns for spectator and player safety saw the game called off early this morning before spectators had travelled to far.
A Manchester City spokesperson said: “Due to extreme and escalating weather conditions and in the interests of supporter and staff safety, today's match has been postponed. “West Ham will run free coach travel for their supporters when the fixture is rescheduled.
The other Premier League game between Sheffield United and Bournemouth is expected to be played.
Storm Ciara has also wiped out the entire Women’s super league fixture list which includes the Mersey side derby between Everton and Liverpool, were more than 20,000 fans were expected at Goodison Park.
While the Horse Racing meets at Exeter, Southwell and Punchestown have also failed to survive the weather. Exeter’s meeting where last years Grand National runner up Magic of Light was due to run fell foul of the high winds, while Southwell which is an all-weather course and Punches Town in Ireland is down to excess Rain and flash flooding.
The big Women’s Six Nations clash north of the boarder between Scotland and England as also failed to survive as a new date is yet to be annouced, the Scottish Rugby Union did however provide a small statement saying;
“Safety of travelling fans, players and venue staff was the priority. Discussions are under way around rescheduling the game,
The weather as also hit the majority of the countries Rugby League fixtures with Super league games between Huddersfield vs Leeds Rhino’s and Wakefield vs Catalans Dragons being re arranged along with a host of Challenge cup third round games.
The storm hasn’t only effect sport in this country as Dutch football Champions Ajax have seen their fixture postponed along with Alan Pardew’s ADO Den Haag and their trip to Sparta Rotterdam.
