The Portuguese captain spent six years at the club between 2003-2009 before going on the dominate club football with Real Madrid, before taking up a new challenge with Juventus during the summer, although there was some doubt if he would be able to play following his dismissal against Valencia on his Champions league debut for the club.
Jose Mourinho’s side will be without forward Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean international was announced as “not fit” following is appearance as a late substitute in Saturdays 2-2 draw with Chelsea. On a brighter note their could be a return for defender Antonio Valencia who has missed the past two weeks after having surgery on his mouth.
Speaking about the defender’s time out Mourinho stated;
“He had a problem – and had very complicated surgery on his mouth. He needed time to recover. It is the reason he was 10 days without training.”
The visitors who currently top the group along with Serie A also have a number of their squad missing, with former Liverpool player Emre Can and fellow Midfielder Sami Khedira joining Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic on the side lines.
Mourinho was open in his acknowledgement of their opponents’ abilities, as his side prepare to meet the Italian Champions for the first time since 2003. They currently come in fine form with a 11 game unbeaten record and yet to concede a goal in this year Champions League competition.;
“Juventus have a lot to offer and an extra year with the same coach and structure,” added Mourinho who won the competition with Porto 2004 and Inter Milan 2010.
