Last years Grand Finalists and Minor Premiership winners Castleford Tigers have named a mixture of experience and youth for their boxing day fixture with Championship side Featherstone Rovers.
Head Coach Daryl Powell has decided to blood no less than 6 of his 7 off season recruits giving the Castleford fans a glimpse of this seasons new and improved squad.
Half back Jamie Ellis will be making his second debut for the club as will winger Jamie Clare as the pair are joined by Cory Aston, Mitch Clark, James Green and Joe Wardle who has returned to super league after a mixed season at NRL side Newcastle Knights.
Wardle who is a Scottish International said,
“I’m really looking forward to having my first hit out with the boys here at the Jungle on Boxing Day. We’ve been back in pre-season for a while now and everyone is itching to get back on the pitch. I’ve heard lots about the local rivalry and I’m sure Featherstone will put up a real challenge for us and it should be a great match for the fans to enjoy over Christmas.”
Wardle had turned down the chance to add to his Scotland caps in this year’s World Cup, instead wanting to put 100% into his preparations with his new club.
Along side the list of new talent Powell has brought in, he will also give three of the club’s academy stars a chance to impress with youngsters Jack Render, Jack Ray, Robbie Storey, Jake Sweeting, Jacques O’Neill and Callum Turner all having a run out with some of the clubs more experienced players.
