No Major upsets as United, City and Chelsea all progress

There were no surprises on Wednesday night as the final games of the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) third round took place.

Holders Manchester United easily dispatched of championship strugglers Burton Albion 4-1, thanks to a double from England International Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, Lloyd Dyer managed a late consolation for the visitors in injury time. United Boss showed his sides impressive squad depth by naming a much-changed team with only Rashford and Juan Mata remaining from the side that started in the weekends 4-0 win over Everton.

Elsewhere, Everton but their recent league form behind them to register a 3-0 victory over Sunderland, Calvert Lewis scoring either side of the break and Oumar Niasse finished the game off minutes before the end.

Manchester City made hard work of their round three game away to West Bromwich, but managed to ensure they name went into the 4th round draw thanks to a double from Leroy Sane. After opening the scoring in the 3rd minute, west Brom managed to equalize late in the 2nd half through Claudio Yacob, only for Sane to add his second minutes late to restore his sides lead.

A Theo Walcott 1st half goal was enough to see a much-changed Arsenal beat a stubborn Doncaster Rovers team at the Emirates Stadium, while Chelsea were the biggest scorers of the night with a 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Kenedy, Batshuayi and Musonda helped last year’s Premier league champions to a 3-0 lead at the break, With Batshuayi completing his hat trick in the 2nd half, before Tendayi Darikwa scored a consolation goal from close range in injury time.
