Manchester United back to winning ways

Manchester United started 2018 with a 2-0 win as they eased past a lacklustre Everton side at Goodison Park, ending their recent winless run, which includes defeat in the League cup to Championship side Bristol City and a string of draws in the league that has seen them loss ground on runaway premier league leaders Manchester City.

With United manager Jose Mourinho unable to call on the surveys of main strikers Romelu Lukaku who suffered a head injury during their draw with Southampton, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic was also absent due to a knee injury.
Anthony Martial was given the job up front for the Red Devils and after a goalless opening half in which United were by far the dominant team, with only some excellent work from Everton’s outstanding goalkeeper Jordan Pickford keeping the toffee’s in the game, it was Martial that opened the scoring in the 57th minute with a stunning curling effort into the top corner from 20 yards after former United skipper Wayne Rooney had lost procession.

With Everton looking clueless up front and barely posing any real threat to the United goal, Oumar Niasse’s header should have levelled the game only for the effort to drift off target!
With the clock ticking down, United ensured themselves of the 3 points as the ever-improving Jesse Lingard notched up his 10th goal of the season, after some more good work from the impressive Paul Pogba.

The result see’s United return to 2nd spot in the league, reducing City’s lead to 12 points, although City play Watford tonight (tue), while for Everton it shows Sam Allardyce’s honeymoon period is officially over as the clubs lack of creativity was clear for all to see, along with the failure to replace Lukaku when he moved to United during the summer which has got to be addressed and the clubs number one priority during the transfer window.
