Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made a surprise inclusion in his squad for tonight’s Champions League last 16 first leg tie at Swiss champions Basel. Germany International Leroy Sane was expected to be side lined for up to six weeks with the ankle ligament damage he sustained during Man City’s recent FA Cup win over Cardiff only a fort night ago. However, with the Germany well ahead of schedule for his return, but Guardiola has stated he’s not in perfect condition.
Another two faces Man City fans will be happy to see back are Spanish play marker David Silva and English international Fabian Delph after the pair have recovered from their respective hip and knee issues.
The return to action of Delph and Silva is an addeded bonus as City’s record signing Aymeric Laporte is rated extremely doubtful for the clash after failing to taking full part in the teams final training sessions and is likely to join long term absentee’s fellow defender Benjamin Mendy and Striker Gabriel Jesus on the side lines.
Basel, who are currently 2nd in the swiss super league and qualified for the knock out stages after coming runner up to City’s local rivals Manchester United in the group stages are expecting a fight against the Premier leagues run away leaders, with coach Raphael Wicky stating:
“We need a perfect game, we must show lots of courage and the fans have to be behind us. Everything must come together,”
If they are to pull of what would be a shock victory then they will need defender Eder Balanta and Midfielder Luca Zuffi to pass their late fitness, but 1st choice goal keeper Germano Vailati will defiantly miss the game with a shoulder injury.
