Liverpool cruise to Champions league win and now have one foot in the last 8

Liverpool cruised to victory in their first Champions league knock out game in 9 years, with a 5-0 win at Porto in their last 16 first leg tie last night.
This isn’t the first time this season Liverpool have posted a high score against European competition as during the group stages only PSG with 25 goals out scored Liverpool who notched up a very impressive 23 in 6 games.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring midway through the 1st half, his well-placed strike beating Porto keeper Jose Sa outright, before Liverpool’s bargain summer buy Mohamed Salah continued what has been a fantastic first season at the club, with his 30th goal only four minutes later. Porto had their best effort of the game just before the half time break, Otavio been put through on goal, only to place his shot wide with only the keeper to beat.
Learning from the mistakes of the group stages, Liverpool didn’t sit back and defend their 2 goal lead, they went for more and were rewarded just after the second half restart. Mane again reacting the quickest after Sa failed to handle Roberto Firmino’s shot.
It wasn’t long after when Firmino was rewarded for his excellent performance with a goal for his own, latching on to James Milner’s pinpoint cross.
With time running out, Mane was on hand to hammer the final nail in the Portuguese’s coffin with his Hat trick goal making him only the second ever Liverpool player to score hat trick in a European away fixture, with Kop legend Michael Owen being the first back in 2002.
The result was only Porto’s third defeat in all competitions this season, but with a 5 goal lead and home advantage in the second leg at Anfield on 6th March it would be hard not to see Liverpool making the final 8.
