Laidlaw back for Scotlands Six Nations Campaign

Scotland blow England away to win Calcutta Cup Clash

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has named the experienced former captain Grieg Laidlow in his 40 man squad ahead of this years opening Six Nation Game against Wales in Cardiff on the 3rd February.

Laidlow who has captained Scotland 31 times in his career, is returning to the international set up after a torrid 12 months of injuries that have seen him miss the summer Lions tour to New Zealand and the Autumn internationals, however Townsend has confirmed John Barclay will retain his captain’s role that he took on following Laidlaw’s injury in last season six nations.

Lions full back Stuart Hogg is also named despite not having played since injuring his hip in the pre match warm up against Australia back in November.

There are recalls for Mark Bennett and Richie Gray along with the return to the international set up off Dave Denton, Scott Lawson, Jon Welsh and Gordon Reid who have all returned following long absences from the International team. Joining them is prop forwards Murray McCallum and D’Arcy Rae who along with full back Blair Kinghorn and scrum half Nathan Fowles are earning their first caps.

But with the new caps and recalls that means that Josh Strauss, Matt Scott and Tim Vesser are left out of the originally squad.
