Tottenham Hotspurs capitalised on Liverpool and Arsenal’s draw the night before to move into fifth with a 3-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor. Star of the show was Hat Trick hero Harry Kane, who’s three goals saw him equal Alan Shearers Premier League record of most goals in a calendar year set back in 1995, although Kane still has one game left against Southampton on Boxing Day.
It only took Kane 6 minutes to open the scoring against Burnley from the penalty, Dele Alli being controversially awarded a penalty after being brought down by Kevin Long. The England star had already pushed his luck with a harsh tackle on Charlie Taylor only receiving a caution from the referee, before minutes later seeming to fall inside the box after only the minimal bit of contact from Long!
It took until midway through the 2nd half before Kane struck again, this time winning the race to Moussa Sissoko’s ball, before sliding the ball past Burnley keeper Nick Pope.
It wasn’t look before he completed his hat trick, this time Dele Alli providing the ball that found Kane in space before he excellent finish at the far post.
The result leaves Tottenham only a point behind 4th placed Liverpool as they welcome out of form Southampton to Wembley on Boxing day while Burnley end the year with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
