Following the departure of James Clare to Leigh prior to the RFL’s official announcement regarding Bradford Bulls being placed in liquidation, the exodus as continued with a few more players taking the opportunity to find new employers. The first to be officially announced was James Walton’s move to championship rivals Featherstone Rovers. The 26-year-old ex Salford and Wakefield backrower only joined the bulls at the end of last season, but moved to secure himself a 12-month deal once the news was announced.
Also moving away from Odsal is fellow forward Tom Olbison, who has secured a move across the Pennines to Super League side Widnes Vikings. Olbison was a product of the Bradford Academy structure, and become a first team regular, playing a total of 140 games for them scoring 19 tries. He is reported to have signed a 1-year deal with the option of staying on in 2018.
Another high profile player that has returned to Super League is Kris Welham, having played nearly 200 games at Super League whilst at Hull KR, the centre stepped down to the Championship last season to score a very impressive 29 tries in 30 games for the Bulls last season. Welham has signed a two-year deal at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Finally, it has just been confirmed that highly rated 2nd rower, Alex Mellor, has also moved on from Bradford, to secure a three deal with Huddersfield Giants. At 22 years of age, Mellor is another product of the Bradford production line and will join ex-team mates Gaskell and Clough who made the jump back to summer league at the end of last season.
