England boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed that midfielder Ruben Loftus-cheek will make his Senior debut from the start in tonight’s friendly against World Champions Germany at Wembley. The 21-year-old who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace from his parent club Chelsea will cap of a fantastic year for him personally that has seen him start for England U21’s in the Summers Euro championships and cementing a 1st team place in a Premier league team.
Southgate also noted that Tottenham Defender Eric Dier will captain the National side for the first time at the age of 23, going on to state that:
“I think he can be even more of a leader than he currently is, and I am hoping giving him this reward and responsibility will also bring even more out of him as well.”
On a less, positive note it was confirmed that Stoke goal keeper Jack Butland will take no part in the game and could be side lined for up to 6 weeks after breaking a finger in training yesterday and has now returned to his club for medical treatment. His withdrawal takes the list up to 7 that have dropped out this week including Tottenham trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson.
While it was also revelled Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater who already has 3 caps to his name turned down his call up due to his believe he was not fit enough for international duty after only recently returning from injury.
For the visitors they also have a few injury concerns with goal keeper Manuel Neuer, defender Jerome Boateng and midfield maestro Toni Koos all missing so they will be giving a debut to RB Leipzig defender Marcel Halstenberg who at the age of 26 has spent the majority of his career in the German lower leagues only recently establishing himself has a first choice in the Bundesliga.
