England ring the chances for Samoa Clash

Itoje could be fit for Six Nations opener

A knee injury to Wasps lock forward Nathan Hughes means Exeter forward Sam Simmonds could be set for his first start in an England shirt as they prepare for Saturdays test against Samoa.
After last week’s record breaking win over Australia, Simmonds isn’t the only change to the squad for Saturdays game as Head Coach Eddie Jones has rung the chances, using this as a chance to see other players preform at the elite level.

Other notable players left out of the squad for this week’s game are backs Anthony Watson, who has been replaced by Mike Brown who has recovered from Concussion, while Alex Lozowski is poised for a recall at centre in place of Jonathan Joseph. Prop forward Ellis Genge could also feature as Jones is thought to be considering resting Lions front rower Mako Vunipola.

One person who won’t be rested is world player of the year nominee Maro Itoje, who missed the first game of the Autumn series, but came of the bench against Australia to play a massive part in helping England to that historic win. He is expected to form a starting partnership with Chris Robshaw and Simmonds in the back row.
