Coutinho out as Liverpool return to European football.

With the Philippe Coutinho transfer saga still ongoing, Liverpool’s head coach Jürgen Klopp has left the Brazilian midfielder out of the clubs Champions league 1st leg squad to play Hoffenheim.

The 25 year old, controversially handed in a transfer request only hours after the club had knocked back a seconded bid for the player believed to be in the region of £90 million from European giants Barcelona.

after being left out of the clubs opening game of the season against Watford on Saturday with a ‘back injury’, Klopp stated that ‘Nothing had changed, not one side or the other,” when asked about the star players absence.

“He is not available for us in the moment, that's the main issue if you want. He cannot play for Liverpool in this moment and, how everybody can imagine, that's quite a blow for us.

“We've known for a few days about it so we can prepare this game without him, like we have to prepare the game without Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge.

Liverpool start their Champions league campaign with a first leg game in Germany, with the return leg being played at Anfield next Wednesday the 23rd August and the Winner over the two legs will be entered into the Champion’s League Group Stages
