Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has announced that Belgium International Eden Hazard will be in line for a return into tonight’s Carabao Cup Semi final 1st leg against London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
Hazard has shaken off a Calf injury and is expected to start as Conte has no other injury concerns and looks to recall a number of stars that sat out Saturdays 0-0 F.A. Cup draw with Norwich City in order to name a strong team for tonight’s fixture.
Mean while Conte has also ruled out any chance of new recruit Ross Barkley making his debut. The former England midfielder only completed his £15m transfer to Chelsea at the weekend and although he has trained with the squad, the medical staff believe the hamstring injury that has kept him side lined all season, is still a few weeks away from fully healing.
The visitors on the other hand have to pick themselves up after their Shock 4-2 exit from the F.A. Cup at the weekend and Manager Arsene Wenger is expected to make a number of chances to the team, however they do have serious concerns over Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi who will both under go late fitness tests today before Arsene Wenger names his squad.
In other Arsenal related news 21 year old academy product Alex Iwobi will be fined following reports and Photographs of the player at an event in London until the early hours of Saturday morning. As he was part of the squad to play on Sunday and reportedly on a 48 hour curfew.
Arsenal boss Wenger is yet to speak to the player regarding the events of Friday night /Saturday morning and will determine exactly how big a fine and if any further punishment is in order once that conversation has taken place.
