England’s manager Gareth Southgate has called the Uncapped Burnley midfielder Jake Cork into his Senior squad ahead of this weekend’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
Although this will be Cork’s first call up to the senior side, the 28 year old has represented England internationally from U16’s to U21’s along with being part of the Great Britain squad that took part in the 2012 Olympics. Cork , who moved from Swansea during the summer transfer window hasn’t missed a minute of his clubs premier league action this season and joins a number of late call ups to the squad following the withdrawal of some of the original squad.
Tottenham trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks all withdraw Monday, with Manchester City duo Raheem Sterling and Fabien Delph joining Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson in withdrawing from the squad the following day.
With so many withdrawals Cork isn’t the only player to be called up this week, with Everton defender Michael Keane and West Bromwich midfielder Jake Livermore both getting the call from Gareth Southgate, while Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has been allowed to join up with the England squad once he had been assessed and cleared by his club’s medical team.
England will host World Champions Germany at Wembley this coming Friday before welcoming Brazil to our national stadium next Tuesday November 14th.
