Batley Bulldogs proposed Pre-season friendly against a Bradford Select xiii has been cancelled due to Bradford’s lack of players. It was reported that the Bulldogs were planning to donate a share of the proceedings to the Bradford players and staff, as they haven’t received anything since the club entered liquidation on January 3rd.
Although the RFL are currently considering a number of bids to form a new club from the ashes of the Bulls. However, since the players became free agents their as been a lot of movement as players have since found other clubs. Since the exodus started they have seen 1st team players Welham joined Salford, Mellor and O’brien have moved to Huddersfield Giants, Olbison to Widnes along with youngsters Moss and Foster who are currently in talks with a number of teams.
With the season only weeks away if any team is reborn the RFL as agreed they will be able to keep the bulls original place and continue to play in the championships, although they will be automatically deducted 12 points alongside receiving £150,000 which is the minimum amount of RFL funding in that division.
Should no club formed in time, new club Toronto Wolves have already stated they are willing to bypass the lower tiers and jump straight into the championship to replace the Bradford side.
