Reports suggest Spanish giants Barcelona are ready to continue their battle to sign Liverpool’s Brazilian ace Phillippe Coutinho, with another bid for the midfielder imminent!
Liverpool rejected three offers from the Catalonian club during the summer and with the 25 year old star already placing a transfer request in before the start of the season and openly admitting his desire to move to the La Liga club, Liverpool face a battle to keep their star player.
The third and final summer bid that was rejected by Liverpool was believed to be in the region of £118m, with £30m worth off add-ons and built in clauses based on the players and team’s success. These included Coutinho winning the Ballon d’Or and the team winning the champions league.
Any deal would mean Barcelona increasing their last offer, without the clauses and add odd’s if they have any hope of doing business during this transfer window.
In an added twist to the story, the sports company Nike, who sponsor both Coutinho and Barcelona produced an advert for Barcelona shirts with the players name earlier this week, before quickly removing the add from their web pages.
Should Barcelona manage to secure their number one target, he would be ineligible to play in the reminder of this years Champions league, having already starred in Liverpool progression to the knock out stages, while on the other hand it would add a massive bulk to the Liverpool’s bank balance, they would know that losing Coutinho at this stage in the season could cause significant damage to both their Champions league and Premier League expectations.
During the summer Liverpool were proactive in their ‘Hard Line public stance stating, “No offers will be considered” but as yet they have made no comment to the latest reports.
