Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero returned to the side yesterday and made an immediate impact as his hattrick helped them thrash Aston Villa 1-6 at Villa Park.
On top of his impact on the team display the all time top Manchester City goal scorer is now the all time Premier League overseas goal scorer, whilst his 12th hat trick is also a Premier league record.
With his three goals the Argentine drew level and then passed the likes of Thierry Henry and now sits joint with Ex England international and current Chelsea boss Frank Lampard on 177 goals. Only three men have scored more premier league goals than him in Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole.
The game opened with two goals from winger Riyad Mahrez twice out smarting former Leicester team mate Danny Drinkwater in the process before Aguero swopped in for his first of the game with a ferocious effort to make it 3-0. While Brazilian International Gabriel Jesus made the game safe just before the break with his sides fourth of the game as Aston Villa fans started to panic about what lay in store in the second half.
The second half was a more subdued Manchester City, who still had enough presence to add two more goals to the tally as the argentine international completed his hat trick with a goal just before the hour mark and his third coming with minutes remaining as he punished the Villa defence for allowing him far to much time on the ball by placing his strike into the back of the net.
Villa did manage a consolation goal as Anwar el Ghazi stepped up to score an injury time penalty to make the final score 1-6 and increase Villa’s problems at the bottom end of the table.
The result does see City leapfrog Leicester and into second in the table, still 14 points behind current leaders Liverpool who also have a game in hand.
